After the Heartbreak: How Shakira Found Love (Story)

“Don’t dial my number again. I’m not interested.”
“Who is it?”
“It’s Dave, the butcher,” Shakira replied, dropping her phone with a sigh.

Shakira and Steve had been the picture-perfect couple. Their love was so pure that friends and family eagerly anticipated their wedding. But when Steve got a job opportunity in England, he left, waving goodbye as the Uber pulled away.

Months passed, and the calls became less frequent. By the second year, Steve started avoiding Shakira altogether. In the third year, Shakira’s patience wore thin. She proposed a visit, but Steve dismissed the idea, promising he’d return soon.

Her parents, however, weren’t as patient. “Shakira, you’re not getting younger,” they reminded her, adding to her growing anxiety. One day, she made a bold decision: she’d surprise Steve in England.

Arriving on a rainy Sunday, Shakira checked into a hotel near Steve’s office. The next morning, she stood by, umbrella in hand, eagerly waiting for him to arrive. What she saw broke her heart – Steve stepped out of a chauffeured car, hand-in-hand with a woman far more glamorous than Shakira had imagined. They shared a kiss before walking into the office building.

Shakira’s confidence shattered. Trembling, she called Steve, but he hung up. With tears streaming down her face, she walked back to her hotel in the rain, drenched and defeated.

Later that evening, she confronted him outside his office. “Steve, I’ve been calling you. Why are you ignoring me?”

Steve froze but quickly composed himself. “I’m sorry, who are you?”
“Who is she, babe?” asked the other woman.
“Let’s go,” Steve said, dismissing Shakira entirely.

Shattered and unable to bear the pain, Shakira collapsed into tears. A kind passerby stopped to check on her, offering her a lifeline during her darkest moment.

That night, Steve called. “I’m sorry, Shakira. The distance changed things. I fell in love with her, and now we’re married. Please, move on. Don’t ruin my life.”

The words cut deep. Shakira returned home, spiraling into depression. She ignored her shop, her parents, and even her best friend until one day, that same friend found her weak and pale on the floor.

Rushed to the hospital, Shakira was visited by Dave, the butcher, who’d always had a soft spot for her. During her stay, he gently suggested therapy. At first, she refused. “I’m not crazy, Dave.”

“Then just read this article,” he said, handing her a piece titled Do I Need Therapy?

The words resonated, and Shakira reluctantly agreed to speak to a Hugger’s counsellor. Through therapy, she began to rebuild her confidence and reclaim her life.

“I’m sorry for everything,” she said to Dave.

“You didn’t offend me, Shakira. I respect your choice.”

“I made a bad choice.”

“We all make mistakes, but even the right choice can lead to a bad ending amidst unforeseen occurrences. You are not God, and you can’t see the future.”

Shakira refocused on her business, this time with renewed determination. Her parents, finally understanding her journey, gave her space to heal.

One day, Shakira got an unexpected call from a foreign number. “You gave me your business card in England,” the caller said. “I’m Henry, the man who helped you in the rain.”

Within weeks, Henry flew to see her. A whirlwind romance ensued, and before long, he proposed. On their wedding day, Shakira radiated happiness as they drove off into their new life together. Watching from the crowd, Dave smiled, knowing she’d found the happiness she deserved.

“Sometimes, healing comes from replacing what’s lost, but true patience leads to the right decisions. I’m happy Shakira could smile again.”
